You want to feel confident, comfortable, and truly seen—like the best version of yourself. The right clothing choices can highlight YOU, illustrate your brand, and help you show up in a way that feels true to you and yet is on brand. In this blog edition I'll go over wardrobe tips to help you feel more prepared for a professional headshot, portrait or branding photography session.
Bring MANY options! We'll aim to shoot 4-5 outfits in a Headshot, Portrait or Branding session for lots of variety for you. Also, you never know what is going to look great on camera and what isn't as good until you try it. Bring a mix of professional, fun, casual, dressy- we want to capture all sides of you!
Love all of Anne-Marie's looks here!
The focus in a headshot is your face and expression! We want to avoid clothing and jewelry that will distract. Solid colors work best and collars should be crisp. Earrings and necklaces should be small or saved for the portraits.
Clothes that fit well help you feel grounded and confident. Baggy or overly loose pieces tend to add bulk in photos. The better the fit, the more flattering it is. Also, pay attention to sleeves- floppy sleeves can be problematic as can sleeveless at times. A good option for a sleeveless piece is to have a light wrap or jacket to cover the arms when needed and, as a bonus, adds variety too.
Is there a place for jewelry, glasses and accessories in a portrait shoot? Absolutely. Just remember, jewelry and accessories should enhance, not overpower. If you like wearing statement pieces, bring them—we can shoot with and without.
If you wear glasses, bring them- bring a couple pairs ! I want you to look like you and if that includes glasses, then we will shoot with those!
I offer wardrobe consultations! Either by phone or on zoom to show me your pieces. This compliments the wardrobe section of the prep guide I send out before each session.
Being prepared helps you feel more confident and a bit less nervous for your photoshoot.
